Got Milk?

Typography made from milk, This took a lot of trial and error. I had to keep getting my mum to put the moove into a glass so i could take enough shots that i could turn into a typeface.

Moove milk, for the moove in you!

Typography face

I love Bob Marley i mean his songs. We had to make a face out of type alone. This was my end result. Reggae colours were obviously used. It looks like a picture but if you look closely it is all text that makes up his face. so here it is a typography type face picture of bob marley!

i have nothing else to say.

Diary cover design

Hello! to those of you who actually follow my blog. I haven't posted for a while although i am trying to start getting into the habit to do it regularly again since the holidays are coming up.

I will slowly post all my work up.

This is a diary cover for the Tafe student association. It was an illustration to represent the two sides of the brain. Left the 'boring' side and the right for the creative side-hence why the right side of thoughts are shown in colour.

Nappy Cakes Logo

My Cousin, Aliyah Deen sells beautiful gifts for anyone wanting to give a present to someone about to have a baby or already had a baby, She creates what are called nappy cakes, NO they are not edible cakes made out of nappys! They are all things baby wrapped up beautifully to give to someone who has just had a beautiful cute baby, just  a way to get them started out. I designed the logo for her business.
She was happy with it and it was simple but striking for the product.

Paper Planes

The purpose of this Brief was to listen to a song and make a cd cover according to the song, basically splat out anything that the song made you feel, i picked M.I.A song  paper planes. The whole slumdog millionaire feel came into my mind, with the dirty Indian roads, fake visas, crossing borders and money and guns. So the end result i came up with was like a dirty feel, with barbed wire that was wearing away, paper planes, rejected visas for people in India who give out fake visas for a certain amount of money and an overall dirty street look. I think i achieved the look i was going for. Listen to the song lyrics if you really want to understand why i made it like this.

Tourism Brochure design

After a bit of absence i'm back to blogging. This is a Brochure 2 fold we had to make, of course i chose to do it on Pakistan because i could not think of anything else at the time. Yes i know cuisine is written twice, but we were being marked on design and not content! Now that i know how to design brochures, i will next time go beyond limits with my design skills. Ok i'm off to sketch.

Supermannnnnn!

A Double page magazine design layout. Topic was on Superman denouncing his U.S citizenship. Don't Laugh it is a serious matter! the space between the third and fourth column of writing is intentional as that is where the magazine fold falls, nothing more annoying than trying to read a book or magazine and half the writing is way down in the fold. I hope this magazine double page spread design pleases your eye as it did mine. To the designers out there-i hope you liked my use of grid system.

Record Cover Design

The brief was to re design record covers of the 50's-70's era. I wanted to redesign it give it a modern look but not lose its 50's feel. The Use of bright colours and 50's typography design gave it that, i kept it without images to give it a clean cut look. I was really happy with the end result.

More Than You imagine!

Life, it is such a puzzle, we come across obstacles, problems, and ideas we are unclear about.

A lot of Art is an analogy of exactly that.
Though all four slides are the same thing,  the first is to represent a problem, we have a solution for it but its a bit difficult to read (the solution is a bit wary) Then the second slide which represents change over time, shows that the solution/idea is a little clearer for solving your lifes obstacles, over time your idea becomes even more clear, and finally exploding into a big fantastic solution that you don't even know what to do with because you are excited and it all becomes more than you imagine.

Henna designs inspired me- Yes i drew this just with a normal black ball point pen and paper.

Poster Designs

A Poster to represent an exhibition at the powerhouse museum showcasing all different posters over time, the first has a outline of a time machine being warped and is s psychedelic look to which compliments a poster of a time period being showcased at the exhibition.

The second is also for the same exhibition but compliment a different era of posters, with a bit of messy type lay out replicating that particular era.

I Like the first one.

Logo design

A few logos i designed. The first was for  a Toy store, The second a construction company and the third for a telecommunications company.  The logo designed was more to emphasis on typography. The first i cam up with by play with a slinky, and looks like a P being repeated. The second has a shape of an A where the blue and red colours show. The third is the telecommunications wave as the T.  I would probably work on the Telecommunication logo design a bit more. but here they are.

Romeo & Juliet

When i first had to do a poster for a play. I chose Romeo & Juliet. How cliche? But i wanted to do something away from the norm, which is  guns & roses, and broken heart and probably a blood or even bleeding hearts or roses. When all else does not seem to work, we sometimes forget what an impact just type alone can have. I would change things a lot now though in this poster, as i am picking up more design skills.

So here is my graphic design poster of romeo and Juliet.

Designing Labels

Ok, So here is a label i designed for an alcohol beverage. Yes it is a made up alcohol and a brief i worked on before people start jumping up and down and say, but you don't drink alcohol Sam.

I was really pleased with this. Basically the choice of colours used and the design for the appropriate target market- which was woman. If this label makes it on an actual bottle i would buy it just for the design of the label. I once made one of my friends (Lauren Whittey) take home a glass bottle just because i loved the packaging. Graphic designers spend hours designing wonderful packaging and everyone just rips it open and puts it in the bin. Pity-but at least they bought it.

My First Logo.

After some time of not blogging, i realised i better get back in the blogging mood.

Ok when i still at the beginning of learning about graphic design, I wanted to design a logo for myself, that represented me in some way. The attached picture is what i came up with. It is basically my name written in arabic tilted on it right, with a S. It was so show my Two parts of me the S for the aussie and the arabic- well quite obvious. As i spent hours working on this logo, i began to realise, that the first impression people will get about this logo was that i was of some arab descent- which i am not and maybe it wasn't the best logo to attract a wide range of clients. i vitoed that logo, perhaps it would look better as a painting for my room?

My First attempt at Typography was shall i say a failed version? well i love henna, or as they call it in my language "mehndi" i thought to myself that i will write the alphabet with this, at that time, just a beginner, i knew nothing about the rules of typography.especially x-height of the letters, the stem, the ascender, the descender, i mean nothing! but yet i experimented anyway just to be creative and start my first typography attempt. I've attached a picture that explains the typography jargon i'm talking about for those of you thinking, "what are you on about?"
Sorry the quality might be a bit bad but i scanned it from a book.

The book is 'Typosphere by Pilar Cano and Marta Serrats.

and well this is my first typography attempt when i knew nothing and thought how cool am i making the alphabet, not even knowing there was a subject called "typography".

Well i'm swamped with work so thats it for now.
Have a good long weekend! Especially you Genna!

June 10, 2011

When i first started out doing Graphic Design, i was coming from such a 'in the books' subject i.e psychology, i was thinking what? i can actually make a career of being creative? So i started out to my venture of doing something i truely love. I started out with short course in Graphic Design to see what i was getting myself into- i was in love.

I'll be uploading my much earlier work, when i was a complete amateur, perhaps i still am. I like to learn with a theory that goes something like this

" A wise person is one who knows, that there is more to know, than what they know, you know?"

Whoever said- was a bloody genius! This made me be critical of my work to believe that learning is endless and it just makes me want to keep getting better at what i do.

Since this is my somewhat of a first post i won't bore you too much.
Attached is a my first ever typography work, i got so excited about all the different things i could do with type in illustrator.

The Giraffe starts to write!

We all say we are going to start a blog but procastination gets the better of us. My Friend Genna inspired me to start my own blog.

My blog will convey my graphic design work and any other art works and illustrations i may do. For now i am in no mind set to write something fantastic to make you laugh. I have nothing to write about nothing.
